Join us in looking back on the most important stages in the development of the Musterring brand, true to the motto “Lots of tradition – lots of future”. The early years of the company are inseparably intertwined with the development of the Federal Republic of Germany. Today, Musterring is an internationally renowned and active furniture brand that takes pride in its local and historic roots.
Musterring introduces a home textile range. At the same time, “JustB!”, the first collection from Bettina Zimmerman for Musterring is launched.
A major environmental initiative is launched to save the Zittau forest. With the donations provided by Musterring and its partners, well over 50,000 trees have been planted to date.
After a promising start, the Second World War leads to a hiatus lasting several years. During the post-war years, Josef Höner demonstrates his sense of pragmatism by designing objects such as a sewing kit. Only after the currency reform in 1948 is the business able to reopen.
A pivotal meeting in Boppard brings old and new partners together and lays the foundation for future success. At the meeting, the M49 model designed by Josef Höner is presented for the first time, where it is enthusiastically received.
After the M49 bedroom suite, the CLUB add-on range became the next-biggest bestseller. For both models, demand was so high that it could not be met with the company’s existing production capacities.
The Musterring M49 is awarded the Grand Prix by economic minister Ludwig Erhard at the exhibition "Alle sollen besser leben" for selling 250,000 units.
The internationalisation of the brand concept begins, starting in Austria, where Salzburg-based furniture store Harmath & Weilinger becomes the first Musterring retail partner.
Bruno Höner, son of the company founder, takes over the management of the company. Under his leadership, the position of the brand advances further and the international business expands considerably.
Musterring signs a contract with the JFSA (Japan Furniture Sale Association), the start of the company’s collaboration with Japanese partners. The following year, the company starts building a sales network in Canada.
Musterring leads the way by opening its own test institute in Rietberg. The introduction of the five-year warranty gives customers a high degree of security.
Musterring targets younger customers who prefer creative, unconventional furniture solutions with its Aktiv series.
Musterring starts working with Grundig to create the first home cinema solutions. A design concept from 1997 is characterised by extendible flatscreens – an absolute novelty at the time.
Actor couple Bettina Zimmermann and Kai Wiesinger become the new brand ambassadors. The company sets its sights on new target groups with crowd-pleasing campaigns.

Generation change: Bruno Höner hands over the active management of the company to his sons, Oliver, Hendrik and Alexander. He remains active on the administrative board of the company.

Furniture architect Josef Höner founds the company Musterring. His idea: to combine industry, retail and services into one effective service community.
In 1938, furniture architect Josef Höner bundled the services of designers, manufacturers and retailers under one roof: a shared brand named Musterring. This pioneering collaborative system is more relevant today than ever: our brand-name products are manufactured under licence by selected, highly-qualified manufacturing companies, in accordance with our design and quality requirements.
